I live less than a mile from the border of the City of Troy, New York. For those of you who like melodrama, you are familiar with the streets of downtown Troy as it is a filming location for HBO’s “The Gilded Age”. For the last forty years or so, it has also been home to The Victorian Stroll, on the first Sunday in December. It’s a legitimately nice event. The first Sunday in December is also the date of the Prospect Park Track Club’s Endurance Festival in Brooklyn*.
We, too, have a Prospect Park in Troy.
So…I have decided to have The Victorian Scramble.
Because why not?
Essentially, sunrise is at 7:11 AM so we are going to be there in the dark getting ready. There will be an aid station on the loop (I am thinking pot luck style, bring what you like and bring enough to share.). Tracking will be through the Alley Kat App. There will be merch and medals available (pre-ordered at cost plus 10% for S/H), customized bibs (if I can find a low cost provider), and good vibes. Plus, it is close enough to Downtown Troy that while the runners are going around in a circle, their loved ones can enjoy what Downtown Troy has to offer**, see their runners finish, and have a great meal in a great city. There will be more details, like a course map, waiver, and signup available on the TRL website (www.RunTroy.com) and socials on and around 10/6, giving everyone a couple of months to figure it out.
*This is a great event and if I am able to pull this off it is because I am indebted to the lovely people who made this such an awesome event in BK.
**The Mayor reads “Twas The Night Before Christmas” to children at the Troy Public Library. It is a hoot for everyone. There are Mummers. There is a Crow Parade, which is a thing beyond description but yeah…
